Hanging Fox Run 04/03/12

Report by Mike Gill.

11 runners out for the 8.30 start from Parkhead Cafe for the ‘Hanging Fox Run’ and it was a bit parky…….just 1 degree as we set off in the snow. The start of the run is downhill as we headed off down Crawleyside we then crossed the road and descended the fell into the valley. The stream at the bottom was crossed in various styles, Brian tip toed across with dry feet, no such messing about by Sara & Murphy who had the philosophy yr feet are going get wet anyway so just plodge through it. A fair bit of hard climbing followed with driven snow in yr face but we all coped. After passing the big sink hole we carried on to a point on the moor where we took a right hand down a bit and eventually fetched out on a lane which a mile later on saw us clattering down the hill into Rookhope. A bit more climbing and then we traveresed the hillside until we came out on the Rookhope Incline. A bit of a flog then to get up the incline to the ruins of the engine house at the top. Once there about another 3 miles or so across the open moors before we popped back out on the access track for the cafe. A quick change into warm gear and then it was into the cafe for foody things and hot drinks. Amanda said it was 13.28 miles. Well done all. Picture above is the moor just before getting back to Parkhead.
