North East Harrier League – Wrekenton – 09/02/13

Report by Ian Young

The first fixture of 2013 and 4th in the series of this seasons Harrier League was held over at Wrekenton in Gateshead last Saturday. Another good turnout by club members on a cold fresh day although we were missing the U17 lads team who were away representing Durham in the inter school`s X Country. The course was in decent condition considering the recent weather but with all X Countries there was still plenty mud to wade through and a small hill to go up and down.

Strong run as always by Graham with Kevin and Dave pushing hard also got to mention Colin Hodgson and Mark Fish their times improving each fixture this season. Bruce Smith sadly pulled up with an injury and was forced to limp back to the tent, hope you get better soon Bruce. Well done to everyone for taking part we do need more men for the final 2 fixtures so come and join us at Alnwick next month.

Results Ladies.

14th Sarah Lister 0:29:11 Medium Pack

48th Maresa Bell 0:30:57 Slow Pack

169 Ladies ran Blackhill Bounders team came 7th overall out of 28 teams updated tables not available as yet.

Another fine run by Sarah with Leanne pushing just behind both running well from the medium pack and doing their bit for the team. Behind them was Louise and Maresa who both had great runs too including a battle finish. To have the whole team finish within the top 50 is a great effort by them. As with the men we need more ladies out for the final 2 fixtures of this season so if you fancy a go come along and join the team at Alnwick.

Photos thanks to Sara Sarginson.

*Final mention must got to our U17 lads Jordan and Isaac who were running for Durham schools at the inter counties X Country down in Teesside the same day. Both had excellent runs finishing 3rd and 4th respectively and qualifying for the nationals in Derby next month. Well done lads!
