Santa Swainson’s New Year’s Eve run to Pub

Following on from last year’s very successful run down to the Kings Head at Lanchester on New Year’s Eve, Mike Swainson has kindly organised to do the same again this year.

Monday 31 December –  New Years Eve 6 mile run to Lanchester Kings Head. 10am start from Morrisons car park.

Bacon sarnies are available from 11am.  Full menu available from 12.

If you intend to park at Morrisons please be mindful of the 3 hour parking limit.  Park elsewhere if you intend staying longer than 3 hours.  If you can make your own transport arrangements,  however there is a bus service if needed.  Would be helpful but not essential if you could let Mike know if you intend to run – just so he can give Kings Head an indication of numbers.   As usual it is a “run at your own pace” and there will be a tail runner.

Merry xmas everyone!!

REMINDER – 23rd December 2018 – Annual Deck the Tree Run

Deck the Tree Run, organised by Tricia Collins – Sunday 23rd  December 2018 (later than usual owing to Loftus date this year) sees the return of the annual “Deck the Tree” run – approximately 12 miles, at an easy pace, starting from the Punch Bowl in Edmundbyers at 8.30. Running out to a lone tree at the foot of Bolts Law Fell, which we then deck with baubles and tinsel. If we’re lucky, we’ll be met at the tree by Bounders bringing sweet mince pies and mulled wine to refuel for the return journey, this is also the point where runners wishing to do a shorter route join for the return journey

The run will take you across fells, moorland and fields, and although mostly on good tracks, it may be very wet and boggy in places – please come prepared for the terrain and possible adverse weather conditions, with trail shoes (or old trainers), plenty of layers and a waterproof.

Don’t forget to bring some baubles and tinsel, and as always, festive hats are a must!

LOFTUS POULTRY RUN 16TH DECEMBER 2018

As per previous years John Hopps has once again took on the challenge of arranging the bus to Loftus, not only this but he has booked the Waterwheel Inn pub for afterwards where hot food and refreshments will also be available.  This has always been a popular race with the Bounders, fancy dress, as you can see above, is optional.

The Loftus Bus will be leaving Ponds Court Consett 8.30am & leaving Loftus for lunch at the Waterwheel Inn Liverton 1.00pm, departing at 5.00pm for Consett.

Price remains at £10 per head payable in advance to Bounders Account, please mark payment ‘LOFTUS’

Please forward your name to John Hopps if you want a seat on the bus  – jhopps@hotmail.co.uk

The run is approximately 8 miles and covers country lanes, bridleways, footpaths and muddy farmer’s fields. The course is generally ascending for the first half of the race, with a steep climb at approximately half-way to the Boulby mast. It is then an exhilarating downhill run down to the finish where a mince pie and glass of wine awaits you! Sturdy trainers or trail shoes are recommended – there is too much road to suggest fell shoes, unless of course we get some heavy snow!

With costumes and lots of cameraderie the Poultry Run is a great way to get your festive holiday off to a flying start. And who knows, with some generous prizes of Christmas fare – including the eponymous poultry – it could also be a handy way to stock your larder!

REMINDER – Sunday 10th November 2019 – Remembrance Day Run

Courtesy of Mike Gill –  On Sunday 10th November 2019 it’s the annual Remembrance Day Run from Cow Green Reservoir in Upper Teesdale, across the fells to High Cup Nick. We will be stopping where ever we are at 11 am to place poppies on the fell and hold our 2 minutes silence to remember those who gave their lives whilst serving their country.

This is a run with attitude of approx 14 miles but will be ran at a social pace with plenty of stops to take in the views, mainly across fells and moorland using parts of the Pennine Way.
Come prepared for the terrain and possible adverse weather conditions, with trail shoes (or old trainers) plenty of layers and a waterproof. Best to bring a change of clothes for afterwards as you will get wet and muddy.

With good weather you might even get to see the Nick in all it’s majesty, the Nick is a massive glacial valley on the edge of the Pennines.

It takes roughly an hour to drive to Cow Green Reservoir so it will be an early start. Meeting 7.30 am at Ponds Court (opposite Tesco in Consett) to arrange car sharing.

Afterwards we will be stopping off at the Langdon Beck Hotel for refreshmennts so bring some cash.
Most of all don’t forget to bring your poppy with you.

This invite extends to fellow runners of other clubs to join us
