NEHL 5 – Alnwick – 01/03/14

1796715_10203227484590509_1864303264_o

Wow what a turnout from club members up at Alnwick last Saturday from U11`s right through to senior men it was probably the best numbers we have ever had never mind for this season alone. The long trip to Alnwick was well worth it the course being in great condition considering recent weather with less mud then normal. A great day for XC!

As always the juniors get us underway just after midday and its been a pleasure to watch them compete for the club this season always smiling whatever the weather and conditions of the course working hard for their respective teams and in some cases the only representative of the team. Special mentions go to Sam Lee who not only is a regular parkrunnner at Blackhill but he also took part in his very first XC and finished with no shoes on, brilliant! Also another member of the Bousfield clan, Joe taking his part for the 1st time in the U15 boys race. Big well done to all the juniors that ran today.

So the season comes to a close Saturday 22nd March at the revised venue of Wrekenton so not far to travel for the Bounders. The club has had another great season in all divisions especially the men who could go on and clinch the 3rd division title. Lets have another amazing turnout for the last one even if you haven’t ran before you won`t be disappointed we can assure you that. The team spirit and camaraderie is second to none so if you fancy a bit of mud on a Saturday afternoon then get yourself to Wrekenton on the 22nd.

Thanks to Hippie Lee Nixon & Christine Murray for the pictures.

Thanks to George Routledge Heaton Harriers for video

The 5th fixture of this seasons North East Harrier League comes to the grand setting of Alnwick this Saturday 1st March. Netherhall 10 incorporating the BMAF 10 Mile Road Race Championships – 23/02/14

1957422_10153848663290387_838584564_n

Patrick Duffy & Ian Young made the journey over to Maryport in Cumbria for the Netherall 10 which incorporated the British Masters 10 mile Road Race Championships. This was the first time both had entered not only a masters race but a British championship one. Conditions were not the best with driving rain and strong winds on the 10 mile out and back loop course. The route itself was quite similar to running the rural back lanes of Consett little ups and downs with a strong headwind for the last 3 miles back in to Netherall school.

Patrick finished in 8th position in a time of 59:22 and claimed the silver medal for his age group V35 a fantastic achievement. Ian finished in 18th place in a time of 64:00 and 5th placed V40. Both were pleased with their performances considering the difficult conditions more so Patrick and his very impressive bling medal. Definitely one for next year as its a perfect race to see where your running & fitness is going into the spring marathon season. Big thanks to Cumberland AC for putting on a smashing event with very supportive marshals and a nice spread of food after the race.

NEHL – Wrekenton 08/02/14

1799891_10153726541360467_660773244_oWell the first fixture back after the Christmas break was certainly no let down. With rain aplenty in the weeks leading up to the event the course was always set to be on the damp side. On arrival it was quickly apparent that proper cross country conditions were to be had with a lovely spread of all the best kinds of mud throughout the demanding undulating course set out by Saltwell Harriers.

Strong winds and a distinct chill in the air but not too cold, perfect chance to get the long pins in the shoes and give it your best. Which is exactly what a great turnout of Blackhill’s finest did.

In the boys Under 13 race Thomas Carvell had an impressive run coming in 13th place with a fast pack handicap of 1:30. Thomas is improving all the time and is surely a star Bounder to watch.

We were represented in the Girls under 13 race by Faye Bousfield, Brooke McDonald and Elisabeth Middlemas who all ran very well in the Wrekenton mud. With 3 runners the girls are managing to score points for the club too, coming in 8th from 40 clubs at the fixture. massive well done to you all. Having scored at all events thus far the girls team is lying 7th overall in the season.

Solid runs from Girls Under 15 Lydia Dunn and Morgan McCann unfortunately no 3rd runner means no points accrued but they’re doing the club proud with their hard efforts!1900051_10153726542595467_1434583838_n

The Senior ladies were brought home by Leanne Robertson followed by Captain Sarah Lister, Becky Morningg, Nicky Gloyne, Catherine Nesham Mcelhone, Helen O’Rourke and Sara Sarginson. Finishing 10th in the top divsion at Wrekenton, the ladies are currently maintaining a steady 7th for the season so far.

Last race of the day saw the Senior men pipped to first place on the day by the chaps of Newcastle Uni. Despite their best effort though this still leaves Blackhill top of Division 3, 5 points clear of nearest rivals Gosforth. Straining at the leash for promotion this season, good solid team work for the next two fixtures at Alnwick and Prudhoe is needed before we can rest.

Men were lead home by brilliantly packed trio of Patrick Duffy, Luke Aston and Ian Young before they were soon followed in by Shaun Wood, Stewy Bell, David Walker, David Best, Jordan Bell from a fast pack start, Graham Burns, Gary Wallace, Ian Middlemas, Kevin Doolan, Colin Hodgson, Derren Sarginson, Liam Reed, Chris Playle, Andrew Hepple, Mark Fish, Stoo Gordon, Phil Mcelhone, Brian Richardson, Mike Powell, Stuart Smith, Kevin Lee and Graeme Parkin.

It really is a great sight to see so many competing in grass roots competition and clearly loving it. So if you’ve never tried cross country yet don’t be shy and get your name down for the next fixture. The picturesque course at Alnwick on March 1st has it all, mud, fast downhill section, woodland and cake so make it a date.

Well done all, let’s march on to the next one!

Thanks as ever to Lee Nixon for the great pictures. More excellent shots can be seen here
