I’m posting on behalf of Norwich Union who are working to help local sporting initiatives across Britain. We thought that you might be interested in helping your local initiative win £50,000 by highlighting their cause.

As well as the grand prize of £50,000, each initiative can win at least £1,000: to do this they just need to receive 200 votes from members of the public. You can find your local initiative by voting here http://www.joinourteam.com/index/supportinitiative

Initiatives will be using their winnings to further develop and encourage young people to participate in sports, so I’m sure that you’ll agree it’s a really worthy cause.

20 of us went to the dogs last nite for Sue's birthday bash, and what a good night it was, thanks to all for making it a such a good night, a few drinks!!!
a bit of food, a singsong (happy birthday to Sue) most of us lost a bit of money placing a bet, but a lucky few among us won a bit too! not to mention any names but Karen B is the one to ask for tips, then to round off the night a boogie on the dance floor or wherever! tried my best but just couldn't get Ray to dance,
Sue has already expressed her thanks as she really enjoyed herself, so here is to the next special birthday and another night out.

Did the 'Moors the Merrier' in stonking hot temp of 27 Degs today. When I got to the start I changed my mind and decided not to do the short course (21 miler) and signed on for the full marathon (actual billed as 26.4) It's a cracking course all off road across the moors, peat hags, bogs you name it. The climbs were something. No marashals or way markers whatsoever so the navigation was very demanding and you had to follow the written prompts very attently as it was very easy to go off piste. It was a spur of the moment decision to go down for it so I had no map. Ran round with a girl who was spot on with her map reading (we did in fact get off course twice and put an extra couple of miles in, so our final tally was approaching 29 miles - how long did it take? - 7 hours 26 mins. To be honest we did a vast amount of walking, well it was a gloriously sunny day and the views were fit to die for. Seriously apart for the silly departure time from this end it really is a run which must be done.

Hi All
Was chatting to Ray, Joy and Sue on Sunday about how to get race entries before they sell out and I use the following web sites:
www.barrycornelius.com/running/races/next.htm
www.runnersworld.co.uk
www.trailrunning.co.uk
www.northernrunner.com/diary
www.lakelandtrails.org
The first site is excellent and lists all future races, you can also subscribe for email race alerts from the second site.
The other sites have lots of off-road stuff including the ,lakeland trail series, which for anyone who has't tried one is a great day out.
Hope this is helpful.
I didn't get up in time to register so Caroline kindly did the bus, I gather the goody bag majored on 2 potatoes!! and little else. The start area was very congested and not helped by the runners Qing for the loo's parallel to the way you needed to force your way through to the start. Weather was cool with a brisk north easterly 18 mph wind in your face for 19 miles before a turn had it pushing you onto the finish. Havent got official times yet but nuff said fast Brian was the man on the day with an unverified time of 3.36. Well done Brian
